Introduction

The Founding Fellow’s project, A Music of Change, was premiered at the Kessler Rooms of the State Museum in Weimar. The Exhibition opened on September 8th, 2021.

The project has three parts at its core – with each part exploring Bach and his music from multiple perspectives. From two contrasting performances of the Goldberg Variations to the late fugues of the Art of Fugue and Musical Offering voiced in differing ways, to the shifting views found within the contrapuntal radio piece, Fugal Travels, the project looks to unlock some of the multifaceted aspects of Bach’s life and work – and the complex ambiguities that lie at the heart of his late style.
